Why Fairtrade? The FairTrade movement has emerged in response to the plight of farmers and workers in developing countries who are being excluded from the benefits of international trade.

• Fair Trade offers an alternative approach to convential trade, seeking greater equity for producers and workers in the developing world.
• It aims to work with these farmers to ensure they get a fair price for their products, especially commodities like coffee, chocolate and tea.
• The price must cover their production costs and also allow for a sustainable livelihood and future for the growers helping them gain the business skills they need to work their way out of poverty, as well as provide a premium to help with social development, health and education.
• The fairtrade process is fully audited from production to labeling.

By choosing to buy beverages made with Fairtrade Coffee, consumers can use their purchasing power to ensure some of the benefits of trade reach the poor. For hundreds of thousands of people, Fairtrade means the difference between a hand-to-mouth existence and being able to have a better future.
