with success comes responsibility...

We take our responsibilities seriously. As a business we naturally have the utmost regard for you, our customer. However, we have equal concern for our staff, our franchisees, for our suppliers, and very importantly, the people who grow the coffee beans we cherish so highly and the environment in which they are grown. This is reflected in Esquires' adoption of the rules that govern Fairtrade in Coffee and Organic Growing.

Esquires proudly supports Fair TradeWe believe we play an important role in the international fairtrade movement by adopting the rules that govern fairtrade.

  • We proudly supply first class fairtrade organic coffee as our house blend
  • In fact, we are the only branded coffee house chain in New Zealand to serve beverages made with Fairtrade Organic coffee

Why Fairtrade? The FairTrade movement has emerged in response to the plight of farmers and workers in developing countries who are being excluded from the benefits of international trade.

  • Fair Trade offers an alternative approach to convential trade, seeking greater equity for producers and workers in the developing world.
  • It aims to work with these farmers to ensure they get a fair price for their products, especially commodities like coffee, chocolate and tea.
  • The price must cover their production costs and also allow for a sustainable livelihood and future for the growers helping them gain the business skills they need to work their way out of poverty, as well as provide a premium to help with social development, health and education.
  • The fairtrade process is fully audited from production to labeling.

Esquires proudly supports Fair TradeBy choosing to buy beverages made with Fairtrade Coffee, consumers can use their purchasing power to ensure some of the benefits of trade reach the poor. For hundreds of thousands of people, Fairtrade means the difference between a hand-to-mouth existence and being able to have a better future.

Esquires supports Oxfam New Zealand www.oxfam.org.nz, Trade Aid www.tradeaid.org.nz and the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand www.fta.org.nz by promoting Fair Trade coffee here in New Zealand.
